Parks & Trails Council needs volunteers

Dear Trail enthusiasts,

There's no way around this. The Parks & Trails Council of Minnesota has several big, big efforts in the works. Bigger than anything we have done before. Big enough to require the help of any park and trail enthusiast who is able in body, mind, and/or spirit! Below you will find a list of upcoming events and a description of our volunteer needs. If you would like to help out, or if you would like additional information, please call Erin at 651-726-2457 or e-mail her at mailto:emcgonagle@parksandtrails.org?subject=Parks%20%26%20Trails%20Council%20needs%20volunteers.

MEF Volunteer Training
11 a.m on July 10
St. Paul
This is the annual training for volunteers who may do tabling and campaigning for MEF during the year. New volunteers especially will learn about how MEF works, key messages, etc. and have a chance to ask questions. Lunch is provided! Parks & Trails Council could use the engagement of a few more of our people on this partnership.

Parks & Trails Council at Lumberjack Days
July 19 to July 22
Stillwater
Those of you who live in Washington County know that the Parks & Trails Council has had an important impact on the natural places there. We have been granted a booth space at Lumberjack Days in Stillwater to tell all the good folks about ourselves, and hopefully convert a few new members. It's important that we continue to build awareness of our work in this county -- future efforts will benefit from it! Shifts will be available all weekend. We could really use the help of those who live nearby.

Parks & Trails Council at "I Love Stillwater" Summer Tuesdays
Tuesday nights July 24 to Aug. 21
at Lowell Park in Stillwater
Another opportunity we have been given in Washington County, thanks to the Greater Stillwater Area Chamber of Commerce. It would be nice to get a few area folks to cover this one, too.

St. Croix Seminar Series at Arcola Mills, sponsored by the Parks & Trails Council, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Aug.17 plus three other dates to be determined
Stillwater
This lecture/concert series focuses on the legacy of the St. Croix River. At each of four events, an expert naturalist will give a talk on a particular aspect of the St. Croix, followed by a concert by a renowned area musician. We are sponsoring the naturalist bit. This is an intimately-sized event, with a maximum of around 60.  Again, it is a tabling/membership/outreach opportunity, with an audience of people that is geographically targeted and perhaps unfamiliar with the Parks & Trails Council.

Bike Minnesota with Parks & Trails Labor Day weekend expedition Friday, August 31 through Monday, September 3 (SW Minnesota)
Our annual bike ride is great fun. We need help from folks willing to drive sag vehicles, help mark the route and direct cyclists, toss out snacks to the weary, etc.  Spend your Labor Day weekend in gorgeous Lake Shetek State Park and see Blue Mounds State Park, Walnut Grove/Casey Jones State Trail, Pipestone National Monument, and more!

Gala Committee -- ongoing
We are seeking volunteers to help us create the Parks & Trails Annual Awards Dinner, a gala event that will honor those who have demonstrated a dedication to Minnesota's parks and trails.  There will be roll-up-your-sleeves work as well as planning and other support.
